Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been around for more than 3000 years.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the human body/mind/spirit as one, all being the manifestation of the vital energy (Qi). Disease appears when the energy flow gets out of balance.
Acupuncture consists of inserting thin needles in specific points on the body, of which there are more than 300, each of which has a specific effect on particular body functions, according to TCM.
At an acupuncture consultation the TCM system of looking at the functions of a human body is adopted, the diagnosis is made according to the various tools of that system, and treatment is devised accordingly.
As acupuncture looks to improve the functions of the human body as a whole, it can help with a wide variety of conditions, from sinusitis to frozen shoulder. In my practice, the conditions I treat most often are:
Infertility (natural conception and ART) Back pain, sciatica and neck pain Anxiety and insomnia Headaches and migraine
Acupuncture uses such fine needles that the sensation of insertion is not at all what you would expect from your previous experience of needles (for example in injections). You may feel the odd prick, but a lot of the time you will not feel the needle entering at all, and will only feel a tingling or dull achy sensation, as the needle touches the point.
All the needles I use are disposable and used only once, so there is no danger of infection.
